New Crafting Alert: Sewing

I have always wanted to get into sewing my own clothes. Back somewhere around 2005ish I bought an inexpensive sewing machine and signed up for an adult ed class. I made one “quillow” in the class (and then made a few more as gifts) but the class didn’t really get into using patterns or sewing anything other than that one project. I briefly try to make a few other projects (mostly tote bags), but my sewing machine was constantly jamming and driving me insane. I got so frustrated I kind of just gave up and went back to knitting.

Fast forward to 2020… All my knitter IG friends are now sewing amazing wardrobes for themselves!! I mean I am sure it’s not EVERYONE, but it certainly seems like they all are. The idea of breaking out that old jammy cheap machine was not appealing to me, so I decided I wanted to get a new machine for my birthday this year. After reading SO MANY reviews and asking sewing friends for ALL the advice, I settled on the bernette b77. It was definitely a bit of a spurge purchase, but it seemed like the right balance of value and something I won’t outgrow. A big shout out to the lovely folks at Gather Here for letting me try one out in the store, going over the basic features, and making sure I left knowing how to thread it and get started.

After a bit of a rocky started (tension was a complete disaster and I had a giant birds nest of thread - but then I wound a new bobbin and it seemed to solve everything), I can’t wait to start sewing!!
